JSON Diff
Recursively compare two JSON documents and highlight additions, removals and changes
Comparing two JSON documents
The diff page compares two JSON documents recursively and lists additions, removals and modifications with the path and both values. Key order does not affect the result, while arrays are compared by index, which helps locate configuration changes and shifted API fields.
Old results expire as soon as the input changes, so stale differences are never mistaken for the latest state. Each entry can copy its JSONPath expression, and the whole summary can be copied for commit messages or tickets.
Both documents must pass JSON validation before the comparison starts, and syntax problems are reported with line and column. The comparison runs locally, so sensitive configuration is not uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
- Will a different key order show up as a difference?
- No. Objects are matched by key name, so ordering does not matter; only value or structure changes are reported.
- How are array items compared?
- Array items are paired by index, and extra or missing items become additions and removals. Misaligned indexes produce many differences, so align the data first.
- Can very large files be compared?
- The page targets regular configuration and API payloads. Very large files consume memory and slow rendering, so split them before comparing.
